HVAC Renovations to Gorgas Library Scope:HHB was selected by the University as the Prime A/E for two separate HVAC upgrades to this building.
The first project ($650K) included conversion of existing direct expansion air handling units to chilled water. Project specifics: work accomplished without major shuts-down of utilities: chilled water extended from the north side to the south side of the building, replaces cooling tower, electrical upgrade to allow both 300-ton chillers to operate.
The second project ($700k) included extension of the hot water heating system similar to the previous chilled water extension, installation of duct mounted hot water heating coils to allow demolition of steam radiators, upgrade of heating capacity, replacement of cooling tower, replacement of 300-ton chiller and conversion of chilled water system to variable flow with primary/secondary pumping.
