HHB Engineers served as the Mechanical Engineer for the $55 million expansion and renovation of Coleman Coliseum, creating a premier basketball training and development facility for The University of Alabama’s nationally recognized men’s and women’s basketball programs. Completed in 2026, the project included approximately 49,000 square feet of new construction and 19,000 square feet of renovations, providing modern practice facilities, strength and conditioning spaces, locker rooms, sports medicine areas, player lounges, film rooms, and other athlete support spaces.

A key component of the project was the integration of the new facility with the University Athletics Central Plant, requiring the extension of chilled water infrastructure through existing occupied athletic facilities while maintaining ongoing operations. HHB designed the HVAC and plumbing systems to support year round athlete training, recovery, and wellness, including dedicated boiler systems, high performance air distribution, and premium locker room and support amenities. The project was carefully phased and coordinated around athletic schedules to minimize disruptions to basketball and other University athletic programs throughout construction.
