Scope: A Design Charrette was performed in order to define and document the facility requirements needed for the Air University Library (ADAL AU Library), Air University Press (AU Press) and the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies (SAASS) continued mission at Maxwell AFB. Hattemer, Hornsby & Bailey PC (HHB) was contracted by the USACE Mobile District as the Prime A/E to produce a Design Charrette Report in order for the Air Force to prepare a 1391 for funding design services and construction.
HHB was the Prime A/E and provided all Project Management, Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing/Fire Protection support in the Design Charrette and Design process. The project consisted of renovating 130,000 square feet of the existing Fairchild Library including all new mechanical/electrical/life safety systems to meet the mission requirements of the ADAL AU Library and SAASS. An additional 17,000 square feet new addition was required in order for the facility requirements to continue and grow with the mission.
Renovation to Building 910 was also required to meet the mission requirements of the Air University Press. They are now located in a 12,266 square foot building.
Facilities included all building renovations, new HVAC & electrical, new addition, utilities, infrastructure, fire protection, fire detection & alarm systems, antiterrorism/force protection (AT/FP), etc.
