HHB Engineers, P.C. served as the Mechanical, Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineering consultant and was responsible for all aspects of the new Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) system, plumbing, and fire protection systems. The new housing complex consists of three one-story secure dorm buildings with individual interment holding cell rooms with a total area of 25,000 square feet. The dorms include bedrooms, dining/TV viewing, multipurpose rooms, and some administrative areas. The project has been awarded LEED certification. Energy savings measures include the use of ultra high efficiency split heat pumps units (17 SEER) to heat and cool the buildings. Low flow and low flush plumbing fixtures are used, as well as harvesting of rainwater to flush the toilets. The water saving measures result in over 40% water savings over the code requirements.
